Frequently asked questions
How much will it cost to control my feral pigs?
Every situation is different, so we encourage land owners to contact us to discuss their requirements. There is absolutely no obligation when contacting us, and we are happy to have a casual chat. There are many options available, ranging from hiring our equipment and doing everything your self, to us doing every aspect of the work. The cost will be different in each case, depending on the above and other variables, but we do our best to make the service cost effective for the land owner.
I'm on a tight budget, can I make it cheaper by doing the work myself?
Yes! We understand that the largest part of the costs is labour and travel time. If you live on site it makes total sense to do the work yourself. We can give you any level of assistance you need, from hiring equipment, to a one time site visit to set up and advise. Every situation is different so it's best to contact us to discuss it.
Do you have insurances and a health and safety plan?
We carry five million dollars public liability insurance, two million dollars professional indemnity insurance, and have a gold standard Sitewise health and safety certification.
You won't be able to get those old cunning boars eh?
Actually we have had no problem catching the big old boars, they are happy to push into the trap just like the smaller ones.
Can traps be set up in difficult to access areas?
Yes, it is better if the site can be reached by ATV, motorbike, or quad, but the folded net can be carried in a pack frame and weighs about 15 kg. It is also better if the site has mobile coverage so it can be remotely monitored by trail camera, but not necessary. We are currently waiting for satellite based trail cameras to arrive for remote locations.
Are there any tips and tricks to this style of trapping
Yes there are! That is an important part of our service. All of the experience we have gain over years of trapping such as, best baits to use, best locations, how to read the pigs behavior around the trap, how to euthanize pigs safely, trail camera setting, can be transferred to you to ensure that your trapping efforts are successful from the get go.
What advantages does trapping offer over shooting and hunting dogs ?
We believe that trapping out performs traditional shooting and hunting with dogs in reducing feral pig abundance. This is because there is very little disturbance to the animals. High hunting pressure will inevitably drive feral pigs out of an area, where they will likely become your neighbors problem until the hunting pressure reduces and they return to your land again. In the long term we think lowering feral pig abundance via a "quiet" trapping approach will reduce the impacts of feral pigs on your property most effectively.
What area do you cover?
We are based in Whangarei and cover the Northland Region. If you are outside of that area we may still be able to help you. Particularly if you would like to operate the trapping site yourself, or would just like some training/advice, or hire some equipment, so still get in touch.
How can I contact you?
